Nigeria Minister of Power, Alhaji Saleh Mamman has dismissed the speculations that the federal government will pay two-month electricity for Nigerians as part of palliatives to citizens to cushion the effect of the lockdown due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Lagos State records new COVID-19 death

The Lagos State government Saturday confirmed another COVID-19 death in the state, bringing the total fatality in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre to 19. The state Ministry of Health disclosed this in its daily coronavirus update posted on Twitter. The ministry acknowledged the 80 new infections announced on Friday night by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) which brought the total number of cases in the state to 670. It said: “80 new cases of COVID-19 Infections confirmed. Total confirmed cases in Lagos now 670. “5 previously confirmed COVID-19Lagos patients were however transferred to Ogun State. Nasiru El-Rufai speaks on Reason Kaduna cannot relax lockdown for Ramadan

Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai has said that the state could not relax the COVID-19 lockdown in the state for the Ramadan because of the dangers the disease posed to citizens. NGIJ reacts to fake news allegations against two journalists in Ebonyi

The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has called on the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Nigerian Guild of Editors and (NGE) to investigate allegations of fake news against two journalists by Ebonyi State government. This was contained in a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA and signed by Israel Bolaji, the NGIJ vice president. This newspaper recalled that falsehood allegation was levied against The Sun newspaper correspondent, Chijioke Agwu, and the Vanguard Newspaper correspondent, Peter Okutu. The duo was arrested and banned from entering government facilities in the state. Another 900 Britons to return from Nigeria on UK charter flights

Another batch of 900 British travellers stranded in Nigeria are set to return home on three flights charterred by the UK Government over the next 11 days. The British High Commission in Nigeria said in a statement on Friday that the three additional flights would bring the total number of people flown back to the UK from Nigeria on Government charter flights to around 2,000. According to the statement, the new flights are scheduled as follows: April 28: Abuja – London, May 1: Lagos – London and May 5: Lagos – London. COVID-19: NCDC, WHO deploy 17 personnel to Kano

The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu, said on Thursday the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) had deployed 17 personnel to Kano State to support the fight against coronavirus in the state. Aliyu, who disclosed this during the daily briefing of the task force in Abuja, said additional laboratory equipment were sent to the state on Thursday. He said: “The PTF has directed and, in line with the directive, the NCDC has already redeployed at least 17 persons, including seven from the WHO, to Kano to deal with the current issues that have arisen. “In addition, the Director-General, NCDC has worked with the state emergency operating centre to reorganise the way it functions and a joint team, together with that from the state government, is currently investigating the concerns with regard to this.” The coordinator noted that some states had continued to record a low level of testing.
