COVID-19: Nigerian govt charges tailors to begin mass production of face masks

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, on Thursday, charged Nigerian tailors to start mass production of face masks with local fabrics.
Mustapha, who is also the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, said at a press briefing in Abuja that the call was due to the increasing demand for face masks in the country.
He said the time has come for Nigerian tailor to start producing locally-made face masks, adding that such move would reduce the risk of person-person transmission of the disease.
The SGF said: “It is critical to repeat, however, that compliance with the advisories for personal hygiene, social distancing, restriction of movement, early reporting of symptoms and wearing of masks regularly, especially in public, remain the best measures for the prevention of infections and to slow down the spread.
“As we all know, we were in a state of war against an invisible enemy. Let me also advise that whenever you are outside the confines of your homes, make sure it is for very legitimate reasons covered by the exemption or within the hours relaxed for the purchase of basic items.
“Similarly, you should carry with you a valid means of identification. Finally, I urge everyone to please exercise patience in communicating with the law enforcement agents assigned to ensure compliance with the presidential orders.”

49 strippers, clubbers and Imam apprehended in Lagos

Seven inter-state buses with 95 passengers billed for night travel have been impounded by police in Lagos just before they took off, the command said on Sunday. The buses were discovered around 8pm on April 21 in the Bhojson area of Ebute Metta preparatory for departure for Benue, Abuja and Ilorin, spokesman Bala Elkana said in a statement. Elkana said drivers and passengers were charged to court, adding that they were among 620 violators arrested in one week from various parts of the state and charged to court for violating restriction order. Others included the Imam of Sheik Central Mosque, Mile 12 Ketu, Suleiman Abubakar, alleged to have held evening prayers (Maghrib and Isha prayers) in the mosque with a large number of worshippers on April 24.
