APC saga: Giadom’s ‘take over’ does not make sense - Oshiomole


Victor Giadom's take-over as acting APC chairman has been thoroughly rebuked  Speaking on the conflicting show of interest, Adams Oshiomhole said Giadom's action was against common sense - According to him, there is a leadership chain in APC which allows a member next in rank to take over in the chairman's absence, Following a shambolic show of interest in All Progressive Congress (APC) on Wednesday, June 17, which saw Victor Giadom imposing himself as the acting national chairman, Adams Oshiomhiole has blown air into the trumpet.

this recalls that the internal unrest in the ruling party took a messier twist as Giadom, APC deputy national secretary declared himself as the sheriff of the party after Abiola Ajimobi had been elected following Oshiomhole's suspension.

Giadom also reversed Governor Godwin Obaseki's disqualification by the party's screening committee, but only for the national working committee of APC to make another ruling against him. Reacting to the twists, Oshiomhole described Giadom's take-over as the national chairman of the party as the political twist that is against common sense.

Oshiomhole, who spoke with Channels TV on Wednesday, warned against destabilising the party and hitting democracy on the head. “My advice to my brother, Victor, is about common sense – in the absence of the chairman, there is nothing in our rules and the court can only interpret the rules of the party and the Constitution of Nigeria. It serves to common sense that if the chairman is absent, it should be the deputy; in the absence of the deputy, it is the vice-chairman. 

"How does the deputy secretary come in? As we speak, we have a secretary in the office. People should put God first, our party’s interest second, and our democracy deep in their hearts and not trying to use any externality to destabilise it," Oshiomhole said. Speaking on his suspension, the embattled national chairman said he accepted the appeal court ruling in good faith because he is a product of judiciary. 

Meanwhile, Victor Giadom's bid to become the acting national chairman of the APC has met with a roadblock as the national working committee of the party declared the seat of the deputy national secretary of the party vacant. The NWC took the decision because Giadom has ceased to be an officer of the party since 2018.

Lagos Doctor Dies Of COVID-19 After Treating Infected Patient

The doctor, who died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday after being rushed to the facility on Monday, was said to have managed a COVID-19 patient at a private hospital where he was working. A medical doctor in Lagos, Emeka Chugbo, has become the first health worker in Nigeria to be killed by COVID-19 after he contracted the virus from a patient he was treating. Chief of Staff Abba Kyari passes on after battling COVID-19

The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mallam Abba Kyari, died yesterday, weeks after testing positive to the deadly coronavirus. The Presidency announced his death in the early hours of today. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said in a statement that funeral arrangements for the deceased would be announced shortly. Adesina said the Kyari who had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19 had been receiving treatment.  The statement titled, ‘Chief of Staff to President, Abba Kyari, Passes on’, reads: “The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari. “The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment.
